Amazon Always Liked You Best! August 4, 2008

Saylah at Mystic Worlds got a note from Amazon.com telling her that the Warhammer Online Collectors Edition she ordered was expected to be delivered on September 18th.
I received the same email from Amazon.com… well, almost the same:
We are writing about the order you placed on May 27 2008 19:13 PDT (
Order# ——————). The item(s) listed below will actually ship sooner than we originally expected:“Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Collector’s Edition [DVD-ROM]“
[DVD-ROM]Estimated arrival date: 09/29/2008 – 10/03/2008
Ooops. No love from Jeff Bezos!
I guess I won’t be in there for that “day one” MMO experience… assuming that everybody’s assumption about when “day one” will be is actually correct!
(And for those of you under… hrmm… 40, the title of this post is a Smothers Brothers reference. Somebody got that, I am sure. Jeff Bezos would get it I bet. I still have one of their albums, along with a somewhat warped copy of The First Family, in a box somewhere in the garage. I can still quote way too many lines from both despite not having listened to them 25 years.)

Day 1 experience will be everyone fighting over bandwidth for downloading hotfixes anyway (remember your post on project management). Now it would be something if they had a set start date for the world a couple days after release for all to get patched up and ready for launch. Maybe have it like Spore where you have a character builder shipped and activated first, so you have something to do. Then when your created characted is ready it is queued up and released at the server set launch time….now that would be a new car smell event that’s worthy of a countdown!
I expect you’ll be in on the Headstart Program though, and as such you’ll be given a few days to get the full game-code in while you wait for your copy.
So yep, you’ll be there. :)
Amazon has been a tease about such things before. I was repeatedly told in emails and online that there was no way I was going to get Burning Crusade any time before January 19th, three days after the release. Then January 16th comes and what do you know, there’s a box sitting right on my doorstep.
Here’s to you making it in time for the Head Start. I think JoBildo is right, you should get your code in advance, then it’s just a matter of getting ahold of the client.
Mythic has stated that you won’t need your code day 1, they will have a grace period for people who ordered online. You should be fine. Now if only the EA Store would send me that codes email…
Genda has the key I think, getting the client since I am not part of any of the other pre-release activities such as beta.
All pre-orders should be getting a set of Headstart codes. I got mine from Gamestop in-store for instance.
If in doubt, and more than mildly worried, try your local EB or Gamestop and see if they have the Riot Cards left for WAR’s CE. Mine had a stack lying around. It would guarantee you headstart and client download access.
As soon as I read the title, I immediately heard in my head Tommy saying, “Mom always liked you best.”
At least you better off than the co.uk cutomers :)
Availability: This item will be released on March 30, 2009. Pre-order now! Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk.
Now that hurts …
March 30, 2009? Ouch, that’s got to sting.
LOL – The difference might be shipping option? I always do next day. I was originally interested in the head-start but now I’m a bit eh and can wait for whenever it arrives. I hope it patches faster than EQ2 which is just horrendous!
