Pokemon.com has announced the first post-release WiFi event for Pokemon HeartGold and Soulsilver.

From April 1st through May 5th you can download a Pokewalker route called the Yellow Forest.

OMG Pikachu!

This new Pokewalker route features, as the name implies, Pikachu.  There are even some special variations of Pikachu you can catch when walking this route.

This is NOT an in-store event, this is only available through direct Nintendo WiFi, which means you have to have configured your DS to connect to the internet via WiFi.

Details on how to do that are in the manual that came with your game. (Page 35 in the SoulSilver manual.)

Once you have that setup, step by step download instructions are available at the Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver web site.

[Edit: This event is now over.  The next event has been announced.]

NP. There is a small group of people that look to this site for the latest Pokemon downloads and such, so I try to announce them when I see them.

I’ve got my Stantler wandering in the Yellow Forest even now.

5. Wilhelm2451 - April 17, 2010

@Emily – You do not have your Nintendo WiFi connection set up. That is why I took the time to point out that that is a requirement. How to do that is in the manual that came with the game.

6. timmeh - April 19, 2010

When i take my pokewalker to school I get around 10 000 but on PE days i get way more than that… Me and my friends swap pokewalkers so that we get extra steps ^.^

7. Pokemon Hater - April 19, 2010

I am at 50 plus Pikachu and no Surf or Fly yet. Pokemon should not have odds equal to winning the lotto. Thanks for nothing Nintendo.

8. Wilhelm2451 - April 19, 2010

I have read a couple of places that rare pokemon, or pokemon with rare abilities only start to appear after so many steps have been taken in a day. That is to say, the further you walk along a route, the more likely you are to find them.

That said, I have quite a few pretty normal Pikachu at this point and have decided to focus on other routes for now.

9. NotJesus - April 28, 2010

When you have this, do you have the route forever? Or does it magically vanish into thin air when the event is over?

10. Wilhelm2451 - April 28, 2010

The event appears to be an unlock, which means that the route remains after the event is over. I have to imagine that there are a few more such hidden routes in the game that will be unlocked at future events.
