I just got this note in the mail earlier today:
As an active member of the MMO gaming community, you’re surely aware of the annual Final Fantasy XI Fan Festival 2007 that will be taking place this weekend in Anaheim, California. As you know, the three day event will be the largest yet and will feature an early look at the upcoming expansion Wings of the Goddess, among other exciting activities.
Six members of the fan-run community FFXIclopedia (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/), which has 20,000 articles of content on Final Fantasy XI, and the GM of the Wikia Gaming Network, Angie Shelton, will be at Fan Festival 2007 giving away prizes and making live updates to the wiki from the show’s floor. With an active community of more than 200 members, the FFXIclopedia wiki is the leading information resource for all-things Final Fantasy XI and one of the biggest wikis within the Wikia Gaming Network which is currently home to nearly 10 million articles on more than 400 PC and console games (http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Gaming).
If you happen to be attending Fan Festival 2007 we’d love to arrange a time to meet-up. If not, we can also arrange a chat via phone, just let me know!
Here I am, an active member of the MMO gaming comunity and I had no idea that this event was coming up. (And stop calling me Shirley!)
I thought I had better share this, lest other active members of the MMO gaming community go uninformed. This just is not getting the same kind of coverage as BlizzCon or SOE Fan Faire. I wonder why?
Of course, I have no idea why this would be sent to me. I have never played Final Fantasy in any of its various forms, nor have I ever mentioned it before on this blog before today. Talk about your cold calls.
Still, live wiki updates from the show floor! It is attractions like that which make an event hard to pass up.
[Addendum: Final Fantasy IX Fan Festival starts November 15th. Details here.]
