SOE Really Wants You Back In Norrath

And they don’t care if it is pre or post cataclysm.

SOE has activated all EverQuest and EverQuest II accounts that were EverActive before.

And, if you will just log on (c’mon, please!), they will shower you with gifts like upgrades through to the current expansions and in-game items plus live events throughout the duration of the program.

Holding out rarely pays off so well.

Massively has the details for the EverQuest and EverQuest II “Living Legacy” campaign here, or you can go to the official SOE Living Legacy site to get the spiffy Flash enhanced version. (The Flash site is very pretty.)

Celebrate Your Hardcore Heritage in EverQuest.

Rewards Await Your Return in EverQuest II.

As required by EverQuest II lore rules, there is a scantily clad dark elf female on the SOE site.

Massively also has an interview with EverQuest’s Ryan Baker and Clint Worley about the Living Legend campaign as well as an interview with EverQuest II’s Bruce Ferguson.

I know somebody who just reactivated his EQ2 accounts last week. Oops.

I may very well give this a shot; left Norrath last May, came back briefly in September and was gone again by November because my primary game is WoW. But two free months? I might get my 71 wizard to 80 and see more of RoK if I have the time.

However, I have to say that while EQ2 at no cost is great for me, it seems like they should also somehow reward the players who have kept their subscriptions active all this time. A discount, or two free months later in the year…not sure what is economically viable. If I were still a paying subscriber, this promotion would feel a bit like a slap in the face.

Well, EQ2 didn’t really want ME back last night, as the launcher would not patch correctly, so I could not log in.

I hope this is something they’re fixing with this morning’s down time, because if it ends up being a reinstall and a repatch from Echoes of Faydwer (the last disks I have and probably a day of patching right there), I am going to pass.

I got word from a friend that the ‘come back’ thing was going on. If it involves little work on my part, I’ll probably pop in for at least a little bit.

I’m thinking that LotRO + PotBS + AoC + other games I’m forgetting have had a serious impact on EQ2’s player base. This may well be preemptive strike to try to get some players back before WAR hits.

I agree with Azy – I’m hoping this coincides with some nice stuff for long time players too. I’d be a little irked if I were in their shoes.

As one that never left it would be nice to get an Atta Boy for staying loyal – but that is generally not how many companies go about things.

    Oh well.

It will be nice to see the population increase even for just a short while.

Just as a follow-up, I downloaded updates and whatnot two nights ago, and last night spent about 2 hours roaming around Kylong Plains in RoK, gaining 20% or so experience, and slowly re-learning what my spells do/how the game works. All my automatic button pressing/clicking by memory had switched over to WoW, lol. So returning for me was a smooth, easy process, although I was more up-to-date with my installs to start with than you are, I believe. I also submitted a petition because I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to find my current house/apt, if I even had one, and they responded in less than 30 minutes. Although I still hate the web-based process, at least SOE was speedy about it.

I don’t know if I’ll stick with it this time, but on principle I’d rather like to get my wizard to level 80 and see the content I bought last year. Hope your launcher woes get fixed!
