Hulkageddon III is Over

It is now past 00:00:01 UTC on the 19th of July, 2010, so Hulkageddon III has finished, the Summer of Gank is over.

According to the kill board, over 1700 exhumers were destroyed as well as over 700 mining barges.  There were also 29 Orcas done in and it looks like one Roquel.

And over three hundred players were pod-killed.

All of which represents an uptick from last time around, when it was over 1200 exhumers, 300 mining barges, a dozen Orcas, and a little over 200 pod kills.

Overall, I don’t think I have any stunning thoughts on the event, at least nothing beyond what I posted in the past.

I’m sure we’ll see a Hulkageddon IV.  Until then, I’ll leave you with this video.

An excellent event and apparantly a 50% increase on last year.

I even got chased through some gates in a Badger!!

Wasn’t the event twice as long as last year’s? Someone else can do the math, I haven’t had coffee yet.

I think I might have been a casualty, but since I destroyed my own ship and got away in my pod, I’m an escapee. ;) (Also it wasn’t a mundungoship, not sure if the smaller ships even count?)

@Yasharros – The January event was 7 days long, this time around it ran 9 days. While that isn’t twice as long, it did include twice as many weekend days.

On the other hand, there wasn’t a huge surge at the end that I could see. Things got off to a bang and then tapered off slowly.

Yet another great EVE video illustrating why I don’t play the game… Oh, not because of all the ganking.. but because of how mind-numbingly boring it is… :) Seriously.

An event called “Hulkageddon – Summer of Gank” and the most exciting thing you can post in a video is the music? I particularly liked all the zoom in/out scrolling over the kill boards. Absolutely thrilling…

In fairness, and I’ve said this before, it’s more of failing in the whole “Space” genre than it is with EVE. The coolest looking ship model in the game viewed from 30km away looks exactly like it would from 30km away — microscopic.

Let’s go blow up some pixels! Er.. well, er, rather how about a pixel.

If my awesome back-of-Calc.exe math is correct, the cost in exhumers alone (grossly assuming they’re all Hulks) would be about $12,000 if they were all purchased via Gamecard-to-PLEX-to-ISK. I know that’s a silly way to view it, but it’s kind of awesome, too. Hulkageddon III destroyed about a used car’s worth of pretend spaceships!

@Tachevert – I actually like looking at it that way. It gives some concrete value to what happened, even if PLEX to ISK didn’t buy all of those ships. I just lends a sense of scope to what went on.

Thank you for letting us know it’s safe to leave the station again.

Do you know how boring it is having to Stop Playing for 2 weeks just so that we have a (virtual) spaceship left to go round in ??
