SOE – Still Down, But “Make Good Plan” Details Released

No news on the “when will things be back up” front, but the “Make Good Plan” has been detailed here.

In addition, the details for the All Clear Identity Theft Protection plan have been posted here.

The announcement, for US customers, is quoted after the break for posterity.

We thank you for your patience as we continue to work around the clock to restore our game services. We know this has been a frustrating time for you and appreciate your understanding as we work to confirm the security of our network.

In light of the recent outage of Sony Online Entertainment’s game services due to April’s cyber-attack, we are committed to compensating our loyal player base for the inconvenience caused by the data breach and lost game time while we improve our security measures.

We are currently in the process of an extensive upgrade to our network to further protect your information from future attacks. It will likely be at least a few more days before we restore our services, and when we come back online, here is what you can expect for each of our game services.

First and foremost, all impacted players will receive 30 days of game time added to the end of the current billing cycle in addition to one day for each day the system is down. Additionally, many games are offering a variety of in-game items and special events to welcome players back once our services resume (per the outline below). This is true for both PC and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system based products.

  • DC Universe™ Online: Batman™ and Two-Face™ Inspired Masks and 30 Marks of Distinction
  • Free Realms®: Free daily items (7 to collect)
  • Clone Wars Adventures™: Count Dooku v2 Outfit
  • EverQuest®: A series of events, including Double XP, Double Rare Mob Spawns and Double Faction Gains
  • EverQuest II and EverQuest II Extended: A series of events, including Double XP, Double Guild XP, Loot Bonanza, and City Festivals
  • Vanguard: Saga of Heroes®: A series of Double XP events
  • Star Wars Galaxies™: Bounty Hunter Statue, a miniature model of Boba Fett’s ship, the Slave I
  • Magic: The Gathering – Tactics™: Four of each of these spells: “Ivory Mask”, “Duress” and “Angelheart Vial”, plus 500 Station Cash
  • PoxNora®: Limited edition Carrionling, Welcome Back 5K Gold Award Tournaments and two Draft Tournaments, plus 500 Station Cash

For our lifetime subscribers, we’ll grant in-game currency; specifically 20,000 coins for Free Realms, 7,500 Galactic Credits for Clone Wars Adventures and 10 Marks of Distinction for DC Universe Online (in addition to the items listed above).

And finally, our Station Access subscribers will receive 500 Station Cash, in addition to the subscription time and items listed above.

Additionally, we announced today that SOE will provide its U.S.-based Station Account holders with complimentary enrollment in an identity theft protection program through Debix, one of the industry’s most reputable identity protection firms. For Station Account holders who live outside the U.S., SOE will be offering similar programs, if and as available, and will provide details as they’re confirmed for each country or territory.

We continue to work around the clock to restore SOE’s services and thank you for your continued patience as we complete our investigation of this criminal attack.

Thank you,
Sony Online Entertainment

This is what they are offering for being offline for 10+ days and allowing hackers to steal my information? Are they insane?

Sony, we are not asking for some sort of booby prize list. We are asking for compensation for lost game time and also for our private information to be sold to the highest bidder! Any sort of list they create, is disingenuous in the very least.

Double XP that you normally do anyway? Come on, get real!

They better up the ante on their re compensation, and five Sony bucks isn’t even a start and.

It does come across as a bit more “Make Mediocre” than “Make Good,” but I’m not sure what else I would ask for that they could afford to spread over a few hundred thousand subscribers.

Well, I guess at FanFaire this year people won’t be up in Smed’s face about NGE at least!

    *cricket chirp*

Ha, ha, ha! Just kidding, they’re always in his face about NGE! They can’t help themselves! They’ll just layer the hacking on top of it.

I don’t have an active subscription with any SOE games, but I do have an SOE account, and a PSN account. That’s two accounts of mine which have had their passwords stolen.

And in return, I get enrollment in an identity theft program? Excuse me if I’m not too pleased with the trade off.

I consider it a valuable lesson, so I’m not concerned about compensation.

From here on I won’t be supplying any gaming companies with any actual personal information. My game accounts will belong to characters that I create. I was already doing that with companies I was dubious about, but that now means all of them.

I thought Jedi’s were supposed to be all calm and stuff?

If I had an SOE account, I’d be pretty upset over those offers. “We potentially cost you your entire bank account and years of dealing with ID theft, here’s five bucks to spend on barbie clothing”.

    Yea…

SoE must think that their customer base are idiots to give this sort of compensation for their CC and identity theft. Yet another thumbs down for SoE. It was a total breach of trust for not securing sensitive information imo.

I think there is my answer on letting go of the whole NGE thing.

But the question remains, if you don’t like what they are offering, what would you want?

I’d take an announcement that they’re developing an offline Everquest RPG so that customers can adventure in Norrath at no risk of bad online stuff happening to them ever again.

    Maybe EverquestNext could be offline?

I’d offer the next expansion for free for games that will have them. I’d offer some stupid free cash shop exclusive to the games that have that (uber-bright glowing pink wings or something). I’d tell Vanguard players they won’t shut the game down, and add a second dev.

I’d give all customers first-access to future betas, and possibly a permanent discount on all SOE products going forward (10% or more).

You know, that or double XP…

I’m a lifetime FR member and I don’t even get the lousy $5 station cash! Wow, 20,000 in-game coins I could easily make in almost no time and some daily items that will probably be lame. I’m pretty much done with SOE and certainly won’t be giving them or any division of Sony any more of my money. SecuROM, malware music CDs, bait and switch MMO games (‘sorry, no new areas we promised since beta in FR, ha ha’) and so on.

I wouldn’t shed a tear to see this company go under, even though I’d hate to see what is left of the SOE dev/support people lose their jobs.

G otta love how everyone seems to think they are owed something for being inconvenienced.
I don’t mean the ppl that actually have been effected real life issues with there credit but the ppl that have feel should be compensated for something that hasn’t effected them at all, other than cant play a game. even get mad cuz the game Sony (or anyone for that matter) provided ppl to have fun playing has changed so they feel they should be given stuff because things didn’t change the way you wanted them to.

Affect, there son. Affect is a verb, effect is a noun. Remember that and thank me later.

And while I would grant there does seem to be a sense of entitlement, it does cut two ways. SOE is in the business of entertainment and making people happy, and failing to do so hurts them financially. But in a virtual world they have a lot of inexpensive ways to make people happy.

During the downtime they could have had the art staff whip up something like “The Hourglass of Infinite Patience” as a house item for EQ2 subscribers who survived the outage and came back to play. Something like that, with a little self-deprecating humor, might have felt more special than going to the double XP and city festival well again, which seems to be the default community bennie.

Actually there is an EQ pen and paper RPG. Check it out on Amazon (under books) or at some place like “Half Price Books” in your area. I haven’t actually been interested enough to open it up, but I do dig niche rpgs.

@redheadedtim – I’ve seen the EQ and the EQ2 pen and paper RPGs over at the big used book store near which I used to work. Was half tempted to pick up a copy, but I opted for the Forgotten Realms Atlas instead.

Of course, if you want offline, there is always SOE’s groundbreaking Graphite Realms.

I would remind a few of you that SOE and Sony didn’t just inconvenience people, they completely failed to protect players’ information by taking even the most basic of precautions, such as encrypting our names, addresses and passwords. Information (some of which are names and addresses of kids) that can used for criminal purposes. So yes, I think Sony/SOE should be doing a bit more for their customers than what they plan on doing so far.

“I thought Jedi’s were supposed to be all calm and stuff?”

Especially a Jedi with “420” attached to his (or her) name, eh?

This gets a little tricky with the free games. For someone with a sub, you get a month to make up for this lost one, plus additional free play time and some freebies on the side, perhaps on the order of $10 value once you include the minor stuff. Not great, but what can they do without making themselves untenable financially?

For those without a sub like me, we get nada. Now that may seem fair, but keep in mind I’m paying money too, just not in the form of a subscription. I utilized 1000 SC this month ($10) on purchases, and my games disappeared the same as everyone elses, but I get nothing more than a smile and a handshake. *That* stings a little.
