Quote of the Day – April Fools Foreshadowing

Talents are now automatically chosen for a player based on the main specialization chosen.

From the 2011 Blizzard “April Fools” WoW Patch Notes

Somewhere else I wrote that the difference between Blizzard on an average day and Blizzard on April Fools Day is like turning the silly knob from 10 to 11.

So I am not saying that the quote above is how talent points are going to work in Padaria, but the difference seems like a mere turning of that knob from 10 to 11.

Oh, and those patch notes also contain a paragraph about customizing companion pets.  Where have I seen something like that?

A mere coincidence?  I think not.

What else have they been hiding in their so-called “April Fools jokes?”

I suspect they’ve gone from using the crazy brainstorm ideas for April Fool’s jokes to using them as the basis for their next expansion.

And why not? Space goats and werewolves were pretty popular.

My memory of how WoW works is a little hazy but wouldn’t assigning talent points automatically according to specialization just turn talents into regular spells and abilities? You get to a certain level and get a certain spell. You get to a certain amount of talent points and get a certain talent.

That actually sounds like a better system to me. I’d certainly prefer it. I’ve never liked assigning points to abilities in any game. I’d much rather it was pre-set to the class.

In any event, it’s hardly laugh-out-loud funny as an April Fool’s joke, is it? Did hilarity ensue at the time?

@Bhagpuss – I think for those patch notes to really be funny, you would have to be paying close attention WoW, closer than I generally do even when I am playing. There are a lot of references in there to things people have been either asking for or screaming about on the forums.

For example, the pet thing starts out sounding like appearance slots, a long sought feature by some, and becomes appearance slots for companion pets.

It is an inside joke thing, for those who care enough to track the forums really.
