Waiting for the Next Rift World Event…

I played quite a bit of Rift this past weekend.

And as I ran through Meridian for various reasons, I noticed that now-lonely corner at the front of the city where the NPCs for any given world event seem to hang out.

No daily quest for me?

I have only seen two world events, but I assume that is where the world event NPCs always go.  Like a lot of places, there is really only big empty patch of land where the circus can setup when it comes to town.

And, in my missing Rift world events, I guess that I am confirming that I like daily quests.

I suppose that is no surprise after I did those daily fishing quests to get exalted reputation with the Kalu’ak so I could buy their special fishing pole and the pet penguin.  Likewise the whole cooking daily routine and the Argent Tournament thing.

Faction-riffic

The key, for me, is having limited goals.

For example, I never spent much time doing the daily quests that they put in at the end of the Burning Crusade expansion.  There was something of an open-ended goal with that as I recall.  Maybe.  I cannot even remember the name of the place where those quests were… way up at the north end of the Eastern Kingdoms.

And world events in Rift fit that limited niche.  They are limited in duration and there are generally only a couple of items I want from the event vendor.

So while there are, in fact, daily quests in every zone in the game, generally setting me to the task of closing so many rifts or slaying so many rift creatures, they do not fill that same slot in my mind.  I will pick those up when I go out to adventure in a zone, but I never go out to a zone just to do those, even when our guild quest is related.

So I am waiting for the next Rift world event.

I felt a little lost when I logged into Rift after New Year’s the corner was empty for the first time in months. I realised then that I had nothing special to do and actually haven’t logged back in again.

I have plenty still to do in game of course but the event dailies were a quick fix I could fit in around other games – I’m just not motivated enough to start the post 50 gear grind which is what I’d need to do to get to Ember Island and the bulk of the content ahead…

@Telwyn – Yes, there is no end of things to do. But a lot of evenings I have about an hour to play, and having that world event thing waiting for me gives me an immediate focus as opposed to traveling out to wherever I was adventuring last to pick up the quest thread once again.

And that corner looks so sad. It is the same feeling you get when a Christmas tree is gone. You might be glad to be past the holidays, but now there is a big empty space in the room and it takes time for you to get over that.

I really enjoyed the first few World Events but after a while they do become a tad formulaic. That said, I would still rather have one running than not.

I just read the promo for patch 1.7 and it looks lackluster. No mention of a World Event at all. I can’t believe they’re going to go through to 1.8 without one – that’d be about three months. Maybe there’s one they’re going to drop on us without warning.
