Jagdpanther

I finally made it up to the Jagdpanther in World or Tanks this past week, advancing me up another notch on the German tank destroyer line and giving me my second tier VII AFV along with the KV-3.

It took me a while to get to the Jagpanther, and not just because the climb from tier VI to tier VII is considerably steeper.  I did the KV-1 to Kv-2 and T-150 and then to the KV-3 in much less time.  It was more a matter of the Jagpanther’s predecessor, the Jagdpanzer IV, being a bit of a chore learning to use correctly.  After the quick and nimble StuG III, with its very accurate gun, the Jgpz IV with its slower speed and much more limited gun transverse took some getting used to.  The 88mm gun was nice.  It punched holes in things.  But its lesser accuracy meant that I had to get in closer to take shots.

Eventually I got used to it though and have played it a lot more recently, which got me to the Jagpanther.

Coming from the KV side of the world, I was keen to give the Jagpanther a try, as it is often out there making my life miserable.  They are not as common as the Soviet tank destroyers in my experience, though I think all those SU-122-44s tip the balance.

So I got out there in my first battle and got blown up pretty quickly.

No tank seems as invulnerable when you are driving it as when it is in the hands of your enemy.  Nor as deadly.

While the base tier 88mm gun was already researched for me, I have a ways to go before I can mount the upgraded version, which seems to be a survival requirement when you get thrown into matched heavy with tier IX vehicles.  I am currently the bounce king in those matches.  And, of course, there are suspension, engine, and radio upgrades to do as well, each of which takes more experience to get than it did to get my happy little StuG III back in the day.

Another new vehicle to conquer.

And I think our Les Chars de Combustion logo looks really nice on the front.

Skip the tracks. They’re not needed to upgrade anything else, and you don’t need any of the features they offer.

Replace “tanks” and “driving” and you have defined the PvP experience!

    Congrats, Wilhelm!

PhII’s right, you can skip them, but I picked up the tracks just for the added track HP (which is apparently the case, but meh, I’m also the type to elite the entire tank before moving on…).

One of the best TDs. I’m not using the top-level gun since it’s slower and less accurate than the previous one (DPS is approx the same if I remember right).
As with all TDs, being on the front line is a mistake :)

And I put off buying the thing for a few days too. Ah well, credits I can earn well enough if I need them. I was up to 3 million at one point.

I did upgrade to the improved 88mm last night, so now I am able to get penetrations more readily. Now to work on the accessories and then to the Ferdinand I think.

    I did the JagdPantherII.
It starts out much better than the stock ferdi. They have the same guns, stats, size, and shape.
The big difference is that the Ferdi has more frontal armor, and the JPII has much more speed.

I think Speed is a huge advantage for a sniping tank however; so you can get into position faster and take advantage of early spots, and re-position quickly. This is critically important for many maps.

Also, starting out with a better initial fit has been a huge advantage for keeping frustration low.

I’m still early in research, but I was able to score 40k base credits, and 800xp holding off three higher tier heavies in a defeat.

The one rub with tier 8 is the 40k credits earned in the defeat still netted me a loss of 20k credits overall after repairs and ammo (8x premium shells =\, and 20 or so normal shells).

Do some more research before you buy the ferdi. I found people to be generally happier with the JPII purchase.

Having just come from the stug I’ve been really struggling with the Jagdpanzer IV. I hadn’t come up with the idea of getting in closer with it, but it was clear to me that sniping with it wasn’t working. Thanks for the advice.
