Honest Trailers – Sherlock

That British show we wait all year for and then delivers three 1 hour episodes (which is how they get packaged for the US market), one of which is generally not great.  I mean, even Downton Abbey or Game of Thrones gives us ten episodes a year.

On the whole, an episode of Sherlock is generally better than any given episode of Elementary, but since we already have ten times as many episodes of Elementary, which started after Sherlock, I have spent much more time actually being entertained by Elementary.

Still, I am eager for those three next episodes coming in January.

I’ve never actually watched Sherlock but I did hear Benedict Cumberbatch interviewed this week (about Dr Strange) and he strongly suggested that due to his and Martin Freeman’s increasingly successful career trajectories it was already all but impossible to schedule any episodes of Sherlock. He didn’t quite go so far as to say the next series would be the last but I thought that was where he was going.

And yes, even by the standards of British TV, where six half hour episodes is traditionally a year’s run for a sitcom, three episodes is unusually lean.

@Thomas Walsh – It has been so long since I’ve seen an episode that I had forgotten that they were 90 minutes, which seems to go towards my point.

@N – I would rather have five Cokes out of the can than be limited to just one out of a bottle. Also, it isn’t an either/or choice as your statement requires. Elementary isn’t quite Sherlock, but it is good in its own right.
