Another Chance to Get Your Name on the EVE Online Monument

Update: The deadline has been extended so that the selection period is the month of May.  The implication is that if you are Omega at all in May, you will make the cut.

Do you even remember the EVE Online monument, located the harbor front in Reykjavík, occasionally defaced, near by where CCP’s offices once stood?  I, and certain specific cookie manufacturing concerns, do.

Artist concept of the monument, pictured in a post apocalyptic temperate marsh because “reasons”

That was a while back, almost exactly nine years ago to be a bit more specific.

There are tales about what the monument was supposed to be and whose names were supposed to be on it in the original plan, but eventually it became the main character, the one with the most skill points, on every currently subscribed account on March 1, 2014.

They even gave a bit of a price break to subscribe if you were not playing but did not want to miss out.

For you, $9.99

If you got yourself subscribed in time your character’s name was etched into some metal with a lot of other characters and glued to the base of the monument.

Once that was done you could go to the official monument page and find where you name was located.  My main was on Plate Row 5, Column 3, Line Number 107.

Wilhelm Arcturus?  Maybe?  It is so small.

Well, somebody noticed about a year ago that the names were all gone.  It later came out that weather erosion had deteriorated the names quite a bit… not much of a monument if the names wear off in a decade, but I digress… and that CCP was going to replace them.

Which brings us to this week and the announcement that YOU TOO can get on the monument if you missed out last time.

The EVE Online monument

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the game CCP is finally going to do up new, and hopefully more durable, name plates, and you are invited to be a part of it.  Once again there is a specific date and once again you must be an Omega subscriber on that date in order to be included.

From the announcement:

The Worlds Within A World EVE Monument in Reykjavík, Iceland, is an awe-inspiring tribute to dedicated EVE pilots that was created as part of the celebrations around EVE’s 10th anniversary and is engraved with over half a million names for all to admire. Now, for the first time in 10 years, you have the rare opportunity to add your character’s name to the monument and forever join the legends of New Eden in being immortalized!

To have your character’s name engraved on the monumental expansion, make sure to have an active Omega account on 6 May 2023 (in any time zone), and your character with the highest amount of Skill Points will forever stand alongside the legends of New Eden. If you’re already among those immortalized on the monument, your loyalty for also being an Omega pilot on 6 May 2023 will be additionally honored with a prestigious titan chevron icon on the monument. Also for those already on the monument, you will be given the opportunity to choose which character to use for engraving in case there is a different character you have that has more Skill Points now than 10 years ago.

The expanded monument will be revealed at Fanfest 2023, with all tiles on the current monument renewed, along with an updated webpage that’ll allow you to zero in on the coordinates of the tile containing your legacy.

Awe inspiring?  This ain’t Mount Rushmore.  There is no Civilization wonder modeled on it.  And, frankly, the right side of it reminds me a bit of a scene from Everything Everywhere All At Once, but that might just be me.

So get yourself subscribed for May 6th if you want your semi-offensive character name inscribed in metal that could last a decade.  And, if you’re like me and you got in on this the first time around, then you get a special tick mark next to your name… a “titan chevron” if anybody know what that means… to indicate that you have probably spent too much of your precious life playing internet spaceships.  But what else were we doing with that time?

Be interesting to see how many ‘3 day Omega’ time is bought up for the event – I am seriously thinking about it, yes sad.
