I mentioned previously that another round of Hulkageddon was looming on the horizon, that unique-to-EVE Online sort of event where apparently bored PvP focused players organize an effort to kill off the industrialists in the game. They have their reasoning for why this event is good for the game, or at least fully in the spirit of the game. (Prize List Here)
And suicide ganking does indeed seem to be in the blood and marrow of the game. One cannot deny it.
Just don’t dare to suggest that the flawed insurance system that makes this event possible might need to be adjusted, because then the some of the PvP players start in with the QQ and the awkward rationalizations, and that is never pretty. (Though I should point out that Helicity, the organizer of Hulkageddon, is on record and agrees that the current insurance payout system is flawed and in need of change.)
Hulkageddon is Coming
All that aside, the big question has been, “When is it?”
While there hasn’t been an official post on the Hulkageddon site about that, the banner has been updated to include a date range, so I am going to take that as the sign of the time line. The dates:
July 9th, 2010 through July 18th, 2010.
In the past that has been from 00:00:01 of the first date through to 23:59:59 of the latter, so I assume it is the same this time around.
And remember, that is in-game time, which runs on UTC, so if you are on the US West Coast like me, there is a 7 hour off-set currently, so the fun begins at 5pm on the 8th here.
Not that any of this should really matter for the most part to an experienced player that pays attention in-game. A Hulk with a shield booster and a pilot who activates it in a timely manner has a good chance of survival.
A thin tanked tech 1 mining barge like a Retriever on the other hand, not so much. Better make sure your insurance is up to date there.
