Steam Kicks off Summer Sale 2024

We have once again reached that point in summer where the Steam Summer Sale shows up.

From now through to July 11th at 10am Pacific, the deals will flow on Steam.

Of course, the summer and winter sales have long since lost the feeling of uniqueness that drove people to binge buy bargains and have, according to some doomsayers, simply set the bar for video game pricing lower, as anybody who doesn’t have to have a new title on day one is incentivized to wait for the inevitable sale on Steam.  Those doomsayers tend to be indie devs whose games are not selling, but the point is not invalid.

My own relationship with the summer and winter sales tend to be hit and miss.  This is, to a large extent, due to my being content to play the same damn games year after year, as any long time reader of this blog can attest.  I have almost 2,300 posts in the EVE Online category alone at this point.

But sometimes I buy something new.  During the last winter sale I ended up buying a few titles in search of a Valheim-ish co-op survival experience.  Granted, we ended up just playing Valheim in the end… but I bought and tried some new titles.  And we ended up grabbing Conan Exiles later based on that initial look at sales.

This year, to stir those of us now more than a bit jaded by the idea of a Steam sale, they have a special Featured Deep Discounts page for titles they think people might be drawn to for the right price cut.

Bargains to be had here? We shall see!

At first glance all the ones I might want are already in my library, but we’ll see if the list grows on me.  And there is always DLC to consider, which is all on sale as well.

There are deals to be had.  I will have to go through my wishlist and see if anything is priced such that I can no longer resist it.  If not… well, maybe it shouldn’t be on my wishlist anymore.
