My Year in EVE Online 2023

Gone are the annual videos that we got for a couple of years.  Mine are preserved on my YouTube channel, at least until Google decides to trim that.  Instead we have an annual email with some stats.

For 2023, now that so many of us have consolidated our accounts under a single email address to get the discount rate for alt accounts, CCP seems to have grabbed the top three characters linked to that email.

Also, this goes from December 1, 2022 through to November 30, 2023 because people are always in a rush to get their end of year summaries done before the year is over.

So which characters did they grab?  Well the first one was obvious.

Wilhelm Arcturus

This one better be on the list since it is my main, do all the things, character.  So what did he do over those 12 months?

  • General

This year you spent 258 hours in EVE Online, which puts you in the top 8 % of all players. We hope you’ve enjoyed your time in New Eden!

You gained/extracted 8,468,925 Skill Points, which puts you in the top 21 % of all players.

I guess that time sounds about right.  I only total up 174 hours for that time period in ManicTime.  But I have mentioned that one of the chronic problems with EVE Online and how ManicTime tracks is that I spend a lot of time tabbed out of the game and looking at something on the web… often related to what I am doing in game… but not always.

That is also 100 more hours than CCP tracked me in game back in 2022, so I guess I played more this year.

I couldn’t vouch for the skill points.  Maybe?  That seems like about 3 million too many since I have been training up alts for most of this year.

  • ISK Flow

Your total ISK income this year was 19,532,400,727 (top 6 % ) but 10,341,831,566 ISK left your wallet (top 9 %). That’s a net difference of 9,190,569,161, which puts you in the top 2 %.

Wilhelm Arcturus spent the most on Mid-grade Amulet Epsilon and made the most from selling Mechanical Parts.

I am kind of surprised I made that much ISK… though I think 5 billion of that was the payoff of the Imperium War Bonds earlier this year.  But even 14 billion ISK seems like a lot, even with SRP included in the mix.

I cannot attest to what I spent the most on… I thought I bought a Redeemer at one point, surely that was more expensive, though I might have bought that with an alt… but I do make most of my money, nearly a billion ISK a month, from PI where I produce mechanical parts because I am too lazy to do anything beyond second tier production.

  • Warfare

You got into some fights this year, and proved your mettle with a total of 314 PvP kills. That places you in the top 9 % of all PvP players!

Last year CCP only counted kills where one got the final blow, and thus the kill mail.  In 2022, that totaled up to 6 for me.  This year they are more generous and have toted up every kill where one was on the kill mail.  That boosted me to 314.

However, when I look over at zKillboard, I can only find evidence of 305 kills for the time period.

The zKillboard summary of the time period

Granted, zKillboard is not definitive, but now I wonder what those other 9 kills were.

Also, lots of kills in January there.  I think it was that fight in Pochven.

  • Travel

Wilhelm Arcturus did some traveling this year, and paid a visit to 358 systems in total. This puts you in the top 7 % of all interstellar travelers.

New Eden is a vast place, and your exploration this year required a total of 987 jumps (top 14 %). During your travels you visited 50 different stations and structures ( top 12 %). Your favorite? 7G-QIG – KarmaFleet is Recruiting!

You had 47 wormhole jumps, which puts you in the top 33 % of wormhole enthusiasts.

That is more systems visited and more stargate jumps than last year.  I guess that is what I spent the extra 100 hours doing… move ops most likely.  And now you all know what system I rat in, when I can be bothered to do so.  I’ll have to change that up.

So a normal-ish year for my main character.  But what other characters would they choose to detail for 2023?

Nancy Arcturus

This is one of my support accounts, one I made for my wife back before EVE Vegas 2015 when it looked like you needed a character name to get into things.  I have use her to transport ships from Jita to the various war zones over the years.  I was also doing Abyssal filaments with her, until Wilhelm borrower her Gila and got it blown up in the first room.  Isn’t that just the way?

So why her?  I guess it was based on hours played.

  • General

You spent time with more than just one clone this year! Nancy Arcturus spent 47 hours in New Eden this year, placing them in the top 19 %.

Your second character gained/extracted 8,288,252 Skill Points, and reached the top 21 %.

Not so much time in game, though I have been training her up all year.  She is on my alt account and my main there is closing in on 200 million skill points and can fly all the subcaps I need him to.

  • ISK Flow

Nancy Arcturus had some ISK movement as well. Total ISK income this year was 8,159,155,913 (top 9 %) but 1,151,133,520 (top 17 % ) ISK left your wallet. That’s a net difference of 7,008,022,393, which puts you in the top 2 %.

Nancy Arcturus spent the most on Ferox Malagrin Marshlight SKIN and made the most from selling CreoDron ‘Yellowjacket’ Drone Tuner D5-10T.

I mentioned finding about 8 billion ISK in the couch cushions at one point.  It was that CreoDron ‘Yellowjacket’ Drone Tuner D5-10T implant, which was just sitting around gathering dust in her hangar in Jita.  I don’t remember where it came from, but I sold it for close to 8 billion ISK, which is a lot of ISK to me.  That took the sting out of the Gila loss.

  • Warfare

You got into some fights this year, and proved your mettle with a total of 18 PvP kills. That places you in the top 38 % of all PvP players!

Heh, she is not a combat pilot at all, but I did take her to Yulai for the bot bash this year.  So those 18 kills, all listed out here.

The Yulai Bot Bash Totals

How many characters have all capital kills on their record?

Except, I only count 17 kills.  Another mystery kill is out there somewhere.

  • Travel

Nancy Arcturus did some traveling this year, and paid a visit to 113 systems in total. This puts you in the top 20 % of all interstellar travelers.

New Eden is a vast place, and your exploration this year required a total of 340 jumps (top 25 %). During your travels you visited 19 different stations and structures (top 26 % ). Your favorite? Alikara VI – Moon 14 – Echelon Entertainment Development Studio!

She didn’t go very far… but still further than many I suppose.

  • Mining

You did some resource harvesting this year, mining a total of 76,953 units, and your favorite was Veldspar. This puts Nancy Arcturus in the top 44 % of miners across New Eden.

You launched 6 industry jobs, which puts you in the top 48 % of industry jobs started.

Also, she did industry things… mostly mining to finish off the old Daily Challenges that have now been replaced by opportunities.  All of that ore was Veldspar mined in a Velator with two civilian mining lasers, and most of it was left behind in the belt in a jet can.

That is probably how she got some extra skill points.  She also has a lot of Evermarks.

So that is my second character.  Who was my third?

Escher Alias

This is a backup character on my main account, a name I made up as a joke back during the Casino War, it being a play on Asher Elias.  His profile pic is the standard Reavers pose and background, but facing the opposite direction.

So how did he make the cut and what did he do?

  • General

You had more than two favorite characters on your journey to conquer New Eden! Escher Alias logged a total of 30 hours this year, making it to the top 23 %.

Your third character gained/extracted 19,609,445 Skill Points, and reached the top 8 %.

I have been feeding him all of the skill points I have earned through login rewards to get him up to be a ratting character at some point.  He also benefited from some cerebral accelerators from events… and from sitting in Jita a lot in a +5 training pod.

  • ISK Flow

Finally, Escher Alias meddled in the market too. Total ISK income this year was 637,378,360 (top 18 %) but 497,004,474 ISK leave your wallet (top 21 %). This puts your net change at 140,373,886 and a top spot with the 10 %.

Escher Alias spent the most on Sentinel Purity of the Throne SKIN and made the most from selling Synthetic Oil.

He was not a big earner.  He didn’t even make a billion ISK, though that is largely because I usually contract his PI to Wilhelm, who has max skills for market trading and tax reduction.

He also used to do PI for synthetic oil, until the bottom fell out of that market.  Now he farms mechanical parts.

  • Warfare

You got into some fights this year, and proved your mettle with a total of 4 PvP kills. That places you in the top 74 % of all PvP players!

He did get on four kill mails, in a battle against Snuffed Out in Assez.  I have no memory of that fight, but Wilhelm must have been out on a deployment and Escher can fly the basic Ferox fleet fit.

  • Travel

Escher Alias did some traveling this year, and paid a visit to 50 systems in total. This puts you in the top 36 % of all interstellar travelers.

New Eden is a vast place, and your exploration this year required a total of 97 jumps (top 42 %). During your travels you visited 9 different stations and structures (top 40 % ). Your favorite? 1DQ1-A – 1-st Imperial Palace!

That isn’t a whole lot of travel.  I am pretty sure most of it was getting to and from Assez to get on those four kill mails.  And the rest was probably from harvesting PI, which meant coming and going from the Keepstar in 1DQ1-A.

Missing from this is my main combat alt, mentioned above as closing in on 200 million skill points.  He is sitting out in the Dronelands, logged off in that Redeemer I mentioned, dropping on PanFam ratting capitals.  Being out there, he doesn’t log in very often, so I guess he came in fourth place on that front and didn’t make the cut.

New Eden

CCP also has a few statistics about the game overall, though they have chosen to hide them in a Pulse video where they spend most of the time reviewing features that came out this year.  Still, there are a few numbers, like the total ISK value destroyed.

Total ISK value destroyed

Of course, now I feel like I need to go check that number using the MER data.  858.7 trillion ISK is a lot of destruction.

So that is New Eden for me in 2023.  We shall see what the new year brings.
