Warp Drive Active #6

Warp Drive Active is a weekly EVE Online related podcast done by Urban Mongral and Winterblink, both veteran EVE Online players.  I do not have it listed on my “Podcasts I Recommend” list on the right because it is part of the VirginWorlds Podcast Collective, which is linked and which is the “Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval” for MMO related podcasts, so I am essentially recommeding them all.

Still, I want to take a moment to call attention to Warp Drive Active in general and episode #6 in particular.

Urban Mongral (that is his choice of spelling) and Winterblink (who also does the EVE focused Warp Drive Active comic) put out a well produced, easy to listen to (easy listening?) podcast.  They cover information about the game as well as major events within the game.  As part of their coverage, they often take a moment to clarify or explain EVE terminology which makes the podcast accessible to both new and seasoned players.  They do ramble off the path at times on somewhat unrelated but generally appropriate topics, but it is all in good fun.

They also find time every few shows to put together a tutorial for new players in the game, which brings me to episode #6.

Episode #6 features a segment titled, “a noob guide for agent running, for those who want to be obscenely rich” that is worth a listen.

The guide starts off with finding an agent which, I am pleased to say, matches up with my own method described below.  It is nice to be right, or at least wrong in good company.  This is followed up with a run through factions, missions, skills to enhance your gain from missions, and the value of loyalty points.  This makes a good expansion beyond finding an agent and straightened a few things out for me.

And, finally, episode #6 also featured the winners of the contest announced in episode #5.

I won.

Go me.

So go take a listen.

Awesome, I didn’t know they did a podcast. I thought the comic was all winterblink did. Time to listen to a few episodes.

I can see where you’re coming from on that. I’m fine with smaller doses of EVE and some banter on the side. As long as I get something out of each show, I’m pretty happy.

    Congrats on the win!

I’m personally enjoying the off topic banter, I like their style, and I agree, it’s very accessible to noobs. Also, how can you forget the homework, it’s my favorite part of the show, now, who has a copy of Cryptonomicon I can borrow… :)

I’ve been listening to the podcast since episode… 3 I think? Great weekly podcast, I like when they go over the ingame happenings, since its going to be a while before I get into 0.0 space.

Maybe it’s just the way the show is done and edited. I AM interested in the off topic subject, I feel there should be less of it, or more of EVE, or maybe have it towards the end of the show!

I still listen and am only saying that as a constructive criticism.
